Revised horse passport law, from 1 July 2009. For more information: www.direct.gov.uk/horsepassports. Email helpline@defra.gsi.gov.uk or telephone Defra on 08459 33 55 77.
It is the law that all horses need a passport. From 1 July 2009, new EU Rules require that every horse must be microchipped when a passport is applied for, or you could face a fine of up to £5,000. Compulsory microchipping provides a permanent link between the horse and its passport.
